The Little Things!

I’ve posted before about my personal experiences and what they’ve meant to me, and in some ways how they’ve transformed me. See my past posts under the titles, “Ghost – My Story”. My apologies to anyone who read the first one – it was meant to be six distinct stories, but I somehow combined them as chapters instead of individual stories.

Lately, as my personal story continues to unfold, I have had the nagging feeling that I, and possibly many of us, may be missing a large part of our personal journeys by simply missing the small things.

Sometimes it’s the little things that are most important and most easily missed. We all seem to live our lives hoping, wishing and longing for a sign. A big, dramatic, irrefutable sign of a larger meaning or presence. Something to guide us or validate us in our beliefs. The one major stepping stone in our journey to make it all make sense. While everyone’s journey is different, I’m here to simply suggest that maybe we are missing signs all around us. Little things that go by in the literal blink of an eye and are often overlooked.

Simple things or a series of things that just happen – and then are gone in the mist. Recently, a few small things happened around me and got me wandering into this pool of thought, and I thought I’d share. Not as lessons – I’m no teacher – but simply as a fellow traveler on my own personal journey. Here are some examples of some of the small things that I feel we might be missing:

Touches: Those light brushes or feelings of being touched. I’ve noticed them but somehow overlooked them until I realized that they usually came at a time of high stress or personal questions. I find them more reassuring than spooky or creepy. That feeling that someone or something is there – close – but we can’t see it – we just feel it.

Lights: Ever see them turn on or off by themselves? Maybe you know you turned the light off or on, and come back to the room, and it’s the opposite. Maybe you go to bed after turning all the lights off and wake to some of them being on. Recently I came up the stairs to bed, dead tired, only to find the light on the nightstand on. It gave me a warm, welcoming feeling that was both comfortable and comforting.

Candles or lights flickering: Have you had times during rituals or just moments of self-reflection, and the lights flicker, or a candle flame grows or dances? I’ve had a few instances where small sparks even come from the tip of the flame. It can be subtle and often missed, but my suggestion is to start looking for them. Stare into them and let your mind go. I’ve asked if there is an entity in the room with me and had the candle flame flicker and dance, and I realize that there was no fan or vent on. There is no air moving in the room, yet the candle dances. I’ve never had one go out, but several times I’ve seen the flame go almost sideways for a brief moment.

Missing or appearing items: Have you ever left a small item on a dresser or desk and come back an hour later, or in the morning, and it’s gone? Several days or weeks later, you find it right on the desk or dresser where you left it. I’ve had it happen before, and either never found the item or it has shown up in a place I know I never left it. I’ve heard it said that certain entities like to do this. I’m not sure what it is, but I know it’s not me moving the items.

Electronic Interference: Have you ever had things turn on or off by themselves? Maybe something turns on for a short time. Or you get strange interference on your computer, TV or cellphone. I walked into the bathroom off my bedroom one night after an intense dream, and the light on the scale near the shower simply turned on. Its blue glow illuminates the room. Now the only thing that activates this scale is someone stepping on it. There was no one else in the room, and I was ten feet away. I smiled and acknowledged the presence and felt a warm feeling of comfort.

Opening a computer or book to certain pages or passages: Have you ever felt compelled to open a book or any electronic device, and it opens to a page that you have never been to but felt oddly like you were supposed to be there? I’ve written that one time I was in a chatroom and had someone dm me and seemed to know why I was there and what I was looking for. I mean oddly familiar, and you could not explain it.

Glimpses: This is one of my favorites. You are working late at night and get a glimpse of something just out of your sight. Maybe it’s something outside or in a dark corner of the room you are in. You can’t identify it, but you know there is something there … or was. I’ve learned to simply smile and sometimes even say hi. Do the shadows talk back … not yet, but then I am still on a journey and maybe I’ve not got to the destination yet.

General feelings: That feeling of being watched. We all get these, but have we delved deeper? I find myself walking in the woods at night often, and when this happens, I simply acknowledge the feeling by turning to face it and smiling or by saying hello.

Dreams/sleep: Are they just dreams? I dream very deeply, but do not often remember what I dreamt. I am working on this in my personal journey to try to find what it means and hopefully find out which are messages and which are simply dreams.

My point is, we all ask for signs — maybe we are actually receiving big, beautiful signs and simply missing them!
