Relationships

The word “relationship” in demonolatry differs significantly from common usage. Historically, grimoires like the Lesser Key of Solomon frame demon interactions in hierarchical terms of command and control. Modern demonolatry takes a more nuanced approach. My partnership with Lilith has taught me that demon relationships are partnerships based on mutual benefit rather than servitude.

A relationship with a demon involves reciprocal exchange. The entity offers guidance, Magickal assistance, or knowledge. You provide energy, offerings, recognition, and sometimes specific actions in the physical realm or world. This exchange creates a connection similar to a professional relationship with spiritual dimensions.

Traditional ceremonial magicians often miss this distinction. Read or watch any TikTok or YouTube on ceremonial magicians, and you’ll discover they approached demons with elaborate rituals but neglected the follow-through needed for relationship building. They performed perfect summoning ceremonies yet wondered why the entity seemed distant or unresponsive afterwards.

Think of your first successful contact with a demon as a job interview. Both parties assess potential compatibility and benefits. What follows determines whether you develop a working relationship or remain strangers who once briefly met.

The relationship includes regular communication, shared experiences, and growing familiarity with each other’s patterns and preferences. This requires consistency. Many practitioners contact demons only when they need something, creating transactional interactions rather than relationships. Would you appreciate someone who only called when they needed a favor?

When Lucy Az first shared with me many years ago some of her knowledge, I was afraid. Eventually, I overcame this fear and formed a relationship with Theresa Dark Goddess. I always communicated that I wanted her knowledge and to be one of her voices here in the world. I didn’t ask for anything tangible, only to bask in her love and serve her.
