The best lie was the Devil convincing us he doesn’t exist, yeah, but you are literally ignoring the Devil you worship. The Devil is real, and he wears a suit and tie. With a perfect, shiny white smile and perfect posture. His face is on every dollar bill, masquerading as our fathers. The Devil stands at a pulpit, at a podium in front of a stadium.
The Devil preaches every Sunday, collecting ten per cent of your paycheck. He owns private jets and gets rich off the Word. The Devil has blue eyes and blonde hair; he wears the face of a widow. As she walks out to fireworks and applause, her husband’s body is barely cold. The Devil is on the news every single night. There is no war, he tells you, there is no way to stop me. The Devil lies during prime time.
