Integration of Energies

I’ve seen a lot of explanations for why people feel tired after doing things like puja or cultivation and most of them seem to agree on a few key things:

  • The work acts as a purifier. By integration of new energies, usually ones that are Sattvic or elevated, the body begins to push out “toxic” forces, resulting in the constant yawning and the like.
  • With the appearance of sexual thoughts, it is noted that this is a sign of Shakti moving in the lower body, primarily Mooladhara and Swadhisthana which rule over primal facets of the human mind. The goal here, then, is not to shame or repress these thoughts but to develop and refine the Shakti in the lower body through Pranayama so she can be made into Ojas and Samadhi.
  • I’ve also noted that a sign that a healing has worked, particularly with evil eye, is that the magician or healer yawns. Yawning, thus, can be seen as release or breaking.
  • Yawning is often associated with Tamas, relating to lethargy or other work. Although we place an emphasis on Sattvas when meditating, Tamas is still a necessary path to go through and represents devas such as Kali and Kaal-Bhairav, who, interestingly enough, are associated with the cleansing of Karma and general ritual purification.
  • From my experience, the integration of energies into the body takes time. We are not always used to the work of integrating energies and so we often find our body suddenly having to adjust to the new influx of energy. When overdone, this leads to spiritual burnout and fatigue. So, ritual work of this type, before it gets better, does tend to get worse.
