Evidence of Christ
Part two of my Christmas blog series examines the idea that Jesus never existed is not a new one. It has been around for well over two thousand years, however, it was solidified in the 18th century when French philosopher and historian, Constantin-Francois Volney, published a book titled ‘The Ruins: or, a Survey of the Revolutions of Empires.’ In this book, Volney argued that Jesus was a mythical character and that the story of his life was based on ancient pagan religions.
p dir=”auto”>Other scholars and skeptics have since expanded on this theory, with some going even further to suggest that not only Jesus but the entire New Testament and the figure of the Virgin Mary, were invented. One of the main arguments put forward by those who believe that Jesus never existed is that there is no concrete historical evidence to prove his existence.
They argue that aside from the Bible, there are no written records of Jesus’ existence, no archaeological evidence, and no contemporary and unbiased accounts of his life. They also point out that the Bible, being a religious text, cannot be considered a reliable historical source as it is based on faith and not fact. This lack of historical evidence, they suggest, is an indication that Jesus was a mythical character and not a real person.
