Atheist Witches Working With Demons?

So this question was put to me by one entering the craft who shared that she read on another satanic tumblr  about this topic and wanted to know more because of the apparent contradiction — How can one be an athiest witch yet work with demons?

I can see her problem. There is but there isn’t “someone out there somewhere’’ yet I work with them all the time? That is a contradiction and a simple and readily identified one at that.

Can one have it both ways? No.

Unless you’re limiting your “God” to the Christian God, or Allah or whoever. Can it be that our “atheist witch” is simply opposed to one deity and not others? It’s always important we understand what a person is saying  because when one says they are an atheist that usually means they don’t believe in any “some one beyond” or the supernatural or an afterlife. All they know is nature exists because we live with and in it so they work their spells calling on their own power, which they believe they might have but aren’t sure, hope happen as well as conjure where they most often are using materials which we know when they are put together will bring a known result . . . we call it folk medicine, which has been around for ages. One needs to consider if she or he simply “redefined” or made up her own definitions to describe herself and her practice for any number of reasons.

In the end, isn’t doing so rather, well . . . dishonest

Today we have to deal with this problem of redefining words by people who want to take hold of something on their own terms so say what they are not something for any number of reasons. It’s done to draw followers, engage in agendas, etc. That’s why I began to use Dark Lord instead of Satan because too many say they are satanists when they aren’t and even assert they “aren’t in the real satanic sense” and do so openly, for them the supernatural doesn’t exist. But I won’t go there. I will say that in my search I learned that my Dark Lord is more than the Christian concept of “Satan” but that too is another issue.

You can’t say you don’t believe (atheisit) yet work with demons (created beings in the supernatural and supernatural beings themselves). Often demons are deities or minions of deities . . . all one has to do is tiptoe through the satanic tumblr sites and your mind will be opened to all manner of expressions. But, in the end,  they are all personified and have the ability to act and engage others and themselves.

Contradictions don’t work except in the realm of the divine when it comes to the power behind the dark arts much less spell casting and conjuring, hexing and cursing. There is a power behind it all. That is “deity” and deity means the divine and divine means “beyond us and our realm of existence.” And spells, etc, means we witches are asking someone to overrule nature to do something for us. Even the low country root doctors, I work with and call upon because they have “the gift” (and they were born with it, don’t elect to become one as witches can do) will tell you they “deal with the divine” from whence “the gift” comes.

I admit I have wondered why witches meet together to cast the same spell, celebrate the same “praise time” and even extend the same curses? Is it because among those coming together some are “power-filled” because they believe and some are not? It’s an honest question, because if you don’t believe in anything “out there” who will act, what result can you expect except in the realm of folk medicine and similar known conjuring?

The satanic must have a “Satan”, someone out there somewhere. He must “be”. He must “be” in order to be able at act and demand loyalty. The Dark Lord is “out there somewhere”.

Absent some neo-definitions of “atheist”, I can’t see atheist witches working with demons. They may think they are but they aren’t because by the very definition of the terms they use, it can’t happen. But then again they may be saying what they do  to avoid losing atheist friends or simply are unwilling to admit they are following Satan. If they are doing that, there may come a time with like the “Empire”, Satan will “Strike Back”. How he does so will surprise you . . . and me.
