Is Debauchery A Mortal Sin Or A Path To Sensual Pleasure?
Another interesting brief query I will respond to almost immediately. Debauchery is always seen as sexual when it is sensual and can involve other pleasures such as food, etc. One doesn’t have to indulge all the time with others to be debauched. Because the term deals with pleasure it is easy to move it over into the sexual. Technically I can enjoy food to excess and be debauched. Here, however, the query is focused on being focused on sexual pleasure(s).
Is one’s focus on excess pleasure a mortal sin? Frankly, that isn’t an issue I need to address. Besides that term has to do with the Christian faith and the division between little and serious sin isn’t there for the most part. Sin is seen as a sin, some easily forgiven, others much harder to atone for and most if not all we have to deal with the consequences in one way or another. in life and death.
As a follower of the Dark Lord, my focus isn’t so much on this “sin” side of things. Rather I am focused on realizing I am a sensual and sexual being so the issue is how do I deal with the pleasures I desire to enjoy? Like a genie appearing suddenly, the Four Maxims suddenly appear before me — and the word “Prudence” comes to mind. Why? because I find my senses are triggered 24/7 in one way or another.
Why does “gluttony” come to mind as I write this? Certainly, Christian theology tells me it’s a sin. Science tells me it can be bad for me: eating too much, etc. That doesn’t stop us from having the desire and when it comes to things sensual and sexual certainly we find ourselves aroused. Then, again, too much is a thing individual, isn’t it? What is “too much” for one isn’t “too much” for another. We often see that when one drinks alcohol don’t we? “She can drink me under the table” is a phrase often heard.
Debauchery isn’t so much a path as it is a fact based on how each of us deals with our desires and lusts. What one would see as debauchery another might or would not. Think about it. I end here rather than overthink this. Besides, there is fun to be had and I want certain of my lusts sated. Forgive the usual flaws. I trust this is helpful. It’s my opinion, my thoughts for this moment. Ave Obscurum Dominum.
