Why Satan. Isn’t He The Bad Guy.

“Satan’s reason is built upon the idea of becoming better than he already is. He believes that it is always possible to rise higher. Satan was the highest among the angels, yet he still felt confined by the hierarchy God had set in place. He reasoned there was no harm in seeking to better himself and rise even higher in the hierarchy. — Lifted up so high / I’ sdeigned subjection and thought one step higher / Would set me highest …” — IV 49-51

It was this manipulation of the natural order God had established that led to Satan’s fall. According to God, one cannot become more than they already are. Satan’s attempt to raise himself higher resulted in a complete reversal of his entire being and status. 

Satan standing for justice, knowledge and reason only further highlights the tyrannical, unjust nature of God. Satan seeks to understand and accept both light and darkness, and embrace all that it is to be alive. There is no sin, there is no hiding truths, no blind obedience or unearned faith. Satan seeks to uncover truths and lay them bare, to embrace sin and reject shame.

Satan is a metaphor — Non-Theistic Satanists do not believe Satan exists, instead he is used as a symbol. Satan represents the eternal adversary. He opposes the ultimate authority “God” and is a seeker of knowledge and justice.Satan questions laws & authority. He is a symbol of free individrialist thought. To many, Satan represents qualities of the “Highest self,” who Satanists strive to be each day.
