Why is it that people see this as one’s life force being taken?

What is happening is she is being filled with a new force, a new sense of how she sees the world … she is, in essence, dying to the old life and being reborn to the new as she sees herself as she wants to be and not what the world and religion and a straitjacket morality wants her to be.

I don’t care for how the Dark Lord is portrayed as death or someone to fear, for that is the opposite of who he is. I suppose one can see the artwork in whatever light they wish. What is so often missed is, because of artwork like this, the cause of the Dark Lord is hindered. I can only say this portrayal of the Dark Lord is used because it clearly shows he is the opposite of the xian God.

Then, again, it may be a symbol of death. That is sad, because when one follows the Dark Lord there is new life and a renewed sense of being and purpose, where we redefine our selves and our expectations, where we reach out with a new freedom about who we are, what we think and believe, and how we will respond to our world. Being filled is what the Dark Lord wants for those who follow him.
