Since it’s Holy Week for the Christians I thought it appropriate to share this little bit of information.
Since Herod was a pagan, he would have been celebrating a feast of Ishtar, none other than Lilith, The Dark Goddess. This was his “Easter” as he would have been too busy celebrating Ishtar under the name Easter, that he would wait until after his pagan festival was over and then he would get back to his duties and have Peter executed. Easter was a pagan spring festival which occurred simultaneously with Passover and therefore “Easter” is the proper word for Acts 12:4 and not Passover. Are you sure that Herod would have celebrated the feast of Ishtar? I cannot find any historical evidence of this. Herod was, at least publicly, a practicing Jew, although he also was supportive or Roman worship), and there was no Roman tradition of celebrating the Feast of Astarte (nor was it inherited in their adoption of Astarte as Venus via Aphrodite). I found a few references to it, but they were all derived from extremely suspect xian sources (e.g. Jack Chick).
