Seeds Of Corruption 3

Chapter 3 – Come hell or high water

Waking up on Friday morning was difficult. The near endless pool of energy Alice had been enjoying finally seemed to be depleted and she felt worse for it. Sitting up, her head was pounding, a dull ache emanating from her forehead. Was this finally the hangover signalling the end? It was wishful thinking, regardless she would still need to go to the club and confirm with Levash. Getting up and putting her curled hair in a cap she did her morning shower and while doing skincare in the mirror she noticed two new changes.

One was that she was certain she was starting to lose it, she spotted a flash of red behind her in the mirror, nothing was there when she turned nor in the mirror looking back at it. The second was that she was without question different, the woman looking back at her was nearly flawless. Her hair had by this point turned near ivory white, was much thicker and when taking the curlers out fell to just above her waist but that wasn’t the most shocking thing, her face seemed more refined? Her overly sharp jaw rounded, her prominent cheekbones softened but still prominent enough to give an intimidating look, her amber eyes had grown bright and the irises larger showing no signs of shrinking back down. The only thing that seemed to mar her appearance was deep bags forming under her eyes, most likely due to the constant restless nights.

All of this was to say, she looked good. Better than good, fluffing her hair out, she looked like some flawless ice queen. Checking herself over for any other obvious changes and she couldn’t find anything, her hips looked like they stood out slightly more as did her chest but she wasn’t going to complain if they developed a little more. Small silver linings to whatever is happening to her.

Leaving the bathroom she finished getting ready, throwing on an old pair of jeans that felt a little more snug than usual and a plain white crop top. As she was getting ready to leave her room she felt a chill run up her spine, spinning on the spot she couldn’t see anything out of place, but again she heard something behind her, a faint voice whispering something in an unknown language, it sounded familiar though, harsh but familiar? Shaking it off as another weird Demon sex side effect Alice headed for the living room.

Upon entering the living room she saw Christina running around her shirt unbuttoned and hair a mess. The girl ran back to her room shouting for five minutes. Looking out the window Alice could see the roads had the usual ice slush scattered about so decided to take her thicker fur coat instead today. Sitting down she checked her phone while she waited.

The first thing she saw was confirmation of the wedding, the couple wished for her to perform for ninety minutes which would be a rather needed cheque for her. Alice sent her agreement to them and slid the date in her diary. She had another missed call from an unknown number and while it wasn’t something she’d usually do she called it back. She had had enough of John’s psychotic racist shit, the number dialled three times before being picked up the voice on the other end, a heavy smoker and one she swore she could recognise.

“Hello?”

“Hi, I had a missed call from this number, it’s Alice?” She heard recognition in his voice

“Oh you’re John’s girl right? He’s a bit busy at the moment, want me to have him call you back?” His words made her blood boil.

“No, you listen here I am not his girl, I broke up with him years ago. Tell him when you see him to stop harnessing me.” With that she hung up and blocked the number.

Thankfully Christina didn’t take long stumbling out of her room five minutes later, and fully dressed this time. She made a beeline for her coat and finally caught sight of Alice, her jaw dropping slightly, Alice spoke quickly to cut her off.

“I have no idea what’s happened but we’ll find out tonight I suppose.” It took Christina a second to recover before responding.

“Maybe we should go now? This is pretty dramatic, no?” Alice just shrugged

“Nothings been changing during the day, it only seems to happen when I sleep, so..” Alice took a deep breath. “May as well get rehearsal done then stick to the plan.” Christina gave her a once over then nodded. She shook her head slightly and the pair finally got out of the flat.

It was a repeat of Wednesday it seems, Christina had wrapped up with a scarf and gloves and was still complaining about the cold, Alice on the other hand felt fine, the coat felt a bit unnecessary if she was being honest, she thought back to before she started HRT and remembered, the cold never bothered her much, something to do with thicker skin? Maybe she needed to get her blood levels checked after this was said and done, maybe whatever’s happening has thrown them off? Jobs for another day regardless.

Arriving at the theatre the pair was let in by Mike who unlocked the door for them. He initially waved them off but did a double take at Alice before stuttering out a proper greeting, she couldn’t stop herself from rolling her eyes. It was the same reaction she got from most of the band as they met for rehearsals, she finally managed to settle everyone down explaining she had just dyed her hair the night before, anything else was just makeup or their imagination. One can dream.

There was a group heading out for lunch including Christina but Alice gave it a pass she knew Julia had her own “prepared diet” she brought with her so would be hiding in the lunchroom. Avoiding the crowd Alice entered seeing Julia facing away from her at a bench but her head sprung up as soon as Alice passed the threshold, turning on the woman with a confused look. Alice waved and sat herself down next to her.

“Hey, are you sure you can’t come tonight?” Julia just continued staring at her, it tok Alice a moment to realise her nose was flaring. “Are you, okay?” Julia spoke in a very measured tone.

“Has anything changed Alice?”

“Other than my hair and maybe my face? I don’t think so.” Julia still remained very tense and stiff.

“I’m not free tonight.” Before Alice could interrupt she spoke louder. “If anything goes– wrong. Call me I’ll see if anyone from the pack is free and can pick you up okay?” Considering her words it was definitely better than nothing, Alice nodded. But she heard a stray voice speak first as a chill ran down her spine.

“Oh how my pups remain steadfast defenders for us.” Alice spun around, but no one else was in the room.

“Did you hear that?” Turning back on Julia the woman looked somehow more tense.

“Hear what Alice?”

“That, someone just spoke. They, they were right here.” Alice spun back to Julia panicking, Julia nodded.

“Have you felt anything else change or, like, has anything happened? Have you had any other contact with any Demons?” Blinking at the change of topic Alice instantly shook her head before thinking.

“I, I think I’ve heard the voice before, in my dreams. Please tell me I’m not going insane Julia, this is something supernatural.” Julia remained still except for her breathing, something she hadn’t seen before in the energetic werewolf.

“I’d say it’s supernatural, you need to go to the club, if you’re feeling– Off. Go home, I’ll make an excuse for you, but work might not be the best environment for you right now.” Her wording did nothing to calm Alice down who just nodded, if she was hearing voices now, who knows what was next, or what else could already have changed.

“Everything.” Jumping at the sound Alice nodded.

“Please can you ask Chris, if you see her to get my violin and bring it home with her.” Julia nodded and placed her hand on Alice’s arm.

“You’ll get through this, just make sure you go to the club, and let me know if you need anyone at all.” Alice nodded, feeling pins and needles on her arm under Julia’s touch.

“Thank you.” Julia let go and motioned to the door, Alice sped walked out and quickly left the theatre.

The afternoon was spent mostly feeling dread, the voice hadn’t made any more appearances and Alice had gotten ready early, she was waiting for Chris to come home at six to reconvene and update her fully before she goes. She had decided on a slightly longer dress than before, red this time with a deeper v down the front, paired with the same black heels as before. She had spent an hour in front of the mirror debating what to wear. She had briefly considered since this wasn’t for fun and it would be practically freezing out, HRT issues or no she should wear something practical, this wasn’t about seeing a guy who had run out on sex. It was about finding a Demon who had cursed her or something.

“Corrupted, not cursed.” Alice cringed and tried to focus her mind to shut out the voice, something that had been made only increasingly more difficult as the week has gone on.

Hearing footsteps and soon the door opening Alice left her room finding Christina coming in and holding her Violin in one arm.

“Julia said you were having–” she stopped talking as she took in the full sight of Alice who just rolled her eyes.

“Thanks, and yeah you might want to sit down. I’ll try and cover everything that’s been happening.” She nodded then blinked and sat as instructed. Alice sat across from her.

“So, all of this hasn’t just been about confronting Levash.” Chris snorted.

“Obviously.” Alice raised an eyebrow. “I’m sorry you just never put this much effort into a man, plus you’ve been, well changing?” Nodding Alice responded.

“Yeah I think, I think when we came back here something happened. I’ve been, well, constantly on edge since and can’t do anything about it? Plus yeah obviously changing. The worst bit though is, I think I’m hearing voices now.”

“A voice, singular.” Alice cringed.

“I’m not sure exactly what any of it means but yeah I’m gonna go confront him, he said if I needed him that I could meet him at the club tonight, obviously I had no idea what he meant at the time but.” Alice shrugged. Looking up to see Christina processing the information she seemed mad.

“So why are you only going to talk?”

“Beg pardon?” Chris sat up.

“Alice, we know next to nothing about Demons, they’ve been here for three years? This could be literally anything, you could be dying–” The voice began to respond in Alice’s head.

“Overly dramatic.”

“You could be, being enthralled like Vampires do–”

“Not possible.”

“Hell, you could be becoming one for all we know–” The silence Alice felt did nothing to comfort her. “What I’m saying is why are we going to talk to him, he clearly did this on purpose, walking into their club is dangerous, why on earth has Julia encouraged this.” Alice furrowed her brows.

“Julia hasn’t encouraged anything. We just agreed that getting answers would be the best step forward, he literally offered them to me when we last spoke so I know I’ll find him. Besides we’re in a club he can’t really attack me or anything.” Her words only served to further enrage Chris.

“He can’t do anything? Could Sebastian not do anything the times he attacked me on nights out, what about in Pyramid when he practically drained me and left me for you to find and take to the hospital?!” Alice was shocked at the vitriol and clearly Chris realised how loud she was getting and stopped and took a breath. “Look I know I come across as a bit ditzy with all the Supe stuff but Sebastian showed me, they can be dangerous. I’d never go to a vamp bar or be around them anymore, honestly I wouldn’t really be around any supernatural group I didn’t know or without, well back up.”

“Julia?” Christina nodded.

“Weres are fine, they basically just people when not changed, and they’re strong so it’ll put other supes off doing anything. But we don’t know nearly enough about Demons to know if they’re threats or not, I mean, there’s the obvious big red flag, I don’t believe it but I mean the bible pretty much nailed theirs and Angel’s existence–”

“They knew of us, and not well enough if they thought Celestials would be their saviours.” The rage Alice felt through the voice surged through her, she felt the heat flow inside her before dying out as Christina continued.

“All this is to say I don’t think you should go alone, if Julia’s not free then we should wait till someone is.”

“But we don’t know he’ll be there then, and what if in the meantime, something worse happens? I can’t leave this to chance–” Alice held her hand up stopping Chris from butting in. “Plus I spoke to Mark, who says hi by the way. He said he’ll call me at eleven and if he gets no answer he’ll sound the alarm bells. Julia’s told me to call her and if I need someone she’ll see if anyone from her pack can come. I have backup.” All three voices in the room remained silent. Alice watched as Christina’s shoulders slumped in resignation.

“I just don’t want to lose you.” Alice moved forward and the pair embraced.

“You won’t, I promise, no matter what happens I’ll be coming home after.”

“You better.” The pair stayed like that a few moments longer, Alice standing as she let go.

“Right, I need to get going if I have any chance of getting in this side of midnight.” Christina nodded following her up.

“Be safe.” Alice nodded, psyching herself up. She would get the answers she needed no matter what.

—-

In an effort to avoid the taxi driver from before Alice took the tube, the walking on her end was minimal and thankfully the station was just across the road from the club when she got off. Leaving the station she let her jacket fall loose hanging from her elbows as she walked, the cold not seeming to reach her in the thin dress. Ignoring any potential meaning from that she turned out of the station hoping to cross the road but saw the usual picketers blocking the way, on seeing her and her attire giving away where she was going they began to chant at her.

“Whore of Babylon!”

“Sinner!”

“Demon lover!”

Alice rolled her eyes edging her way around the police cordon blocking her from the public. The police looked at her with barely concealed disgust as she made her way across the road. Who’d waste their Friday night waiting on the corner of the street just to harass people? What made them think they were any better than any of the Demons within? Or her for that matter. The insults continued as they grew quieter, each as unoriginal as the last.

Reaching the club Alice realised her first issue, the large bouncer from before was at the door again, the barrier rope already lifted. She could go with the original plan of saying she knew Levash and trying to force her way in or she could queue. The decision was made when she saw how long the queue in front of her actually was.

“You do not wait with the humans.” Shaking her head she cleared her mind once again and skipped the queue.

Approaching the bouncer who idly watched her she mustered as much false confidence as she could manage.

“I’m here to see Levash.” She waited a moment, then two while the bouncer made no indication that he had acknowledged her. She hesitated, the front of the crowd watching her and making comments back and forth.

“Levash wanted me to meet him here?”

“And?”

“So can I go in?” He rolled his eyes.

“The barriers open, you don’t need to ask.” Not to look a gift horse in the mouth she quickly made her way up the steps and through the barrier the bouncer hooking it behind her and she heard him mutter slightly.

“–airheads the lot of them.” Choosing not to push her luck she left the bouncer and entered the club.

It seemed far less mystical this time around. Whatever pulled her in when she entered Sloth had faded now. Leaving behind just a bar with sleepy drinkers. Seeing the doors at the back of the room she quickly cut her way across the bar noticing a few odd looks from some of the obvious Demons milling around the floor. Refusing to make eye contact and invite any conversation she reached the stairwell in no time making her way to top heading right for lust.

Entering Lust, the dance floor seemed to have a few people dancing in groups but thankfully not many were there yet. She noted something must have changed in the lighting, some of the people on the dance floor seemed almost highlighted in purple, as if one of the club’s lights shone on them like a spotlight. Regardless, the reduced crowd made spotting Levash leaning on the bar easier. As she made a beeline to him she tried to avoid appreciating the demon’s body which was a struggle, the tight pants and tee he had on doing little to hide the snug athletic form underneath. The pearlescent horned bartender was talking to him and seeing Alice she blinked looking slightly stunned before nodding to her, this seemingly signalling to Levash who stood up straight turning on the angry woman with his hands already up in defence.

Her entire way here she had felt nothing but nerves, well nerves and a slight undercurrent of lust, but now it had all been replaced with anger. Reaching him she quickly poked his chest making him recoil slightly.

“What on earth have you done to me?!” At her yell a few people turned looking on curiously, the bartender spoke to Levash while looking straight at Alice inquisitively.

“Take this elsewhere Levash, we don’t need any issues.” This only infuriated Alice more.

“Issues? You’ve already got an issue.” Turning back to Levash. “Talk.” He nodded.

“I will but not here Alice, please let’s go to one of the side rooms. I’ll tell you everything.”

“You best not try anything my friends know I’m here.” This made him blink.

“Alice, no harm will come to you here, please.” weighing the risk she decided she needed answers and if anything did happen well supes and humans knew she was here. That had to be worth something.

—-

Levash shut the door behind him and turned on a light, the room lit up in a dim purple revealing for all intents and purposes a bedroom. Some silks hung from the ceiling and in the Center sat a large open bed, a table sat to the side with certain items on it. Turning on the demon Alice spoke.

“You have definitely got the wrong idea here, I meant talk not.” Pointing behind her she gestured at the bed. Levash for his part looked suitably embarrassed.

“The room is noise cancelling so we can hear ourselves think. I don’t expect anything from you.” Alice nodded, realising that he was right she couldn’t hear anything beyond, no talking, no music.

“Dare I ask why a club needs to have bedrooms on its top floor?” Levash gave her a sardonic look as he sat down on the bed.

“You’re a smart girl, you can work it out. Anyway sit, you’re right we need to talk.” Alice perched on the end of the bed waiting for him to lead.

“So I know why you’re here..”

“You’ve infected me with something.” Alice accused.

“No, well.” Sighing already he continued. “Please let me explain this is, a lot to get out.” Alice reluctantly nodded and he continued “When we parted I was hoping that my absence would be enough to ensure that nothing happened to you..”

“Fat lot of good that did then.” He glared at her and she shut up.

“Obviously I was wrong, have you had any contact with other demons since we last met? Slept with any other Demons” The question or accusation brought a scowl to her face.

“No I don’t just randomly sleep with any Demon I see, this is all–”

“I didn’t mean anything by it but I just need to understand exactly what may have influenced the changes you have experienced.” Taking a breath Alice shook her head before realising

“Well one taxi driver who was weird, he wouldn’t stop staring at me.” Levash nodded.

“If he only drove you somewhere it wouldn’t have done anything. His staring was probably because he sensed what I did.” Pausing he took a deep breath. ” Like I said it’s a lot to go through and not all of it is comfortable for me to talk about, I will answer all of your questions, just please bear with me.” He looked at Alice and unless he was manipulating her his eyes held real pain. She nodded and he took a deep breath and began.

“What happened to you is irregular and on earth at least completely unheard of. Demons you may know feed off their respective sin.” She nodded and he continued. “I can’t explain how the process works exactly but if we cause someone to sin or sin with them, it feeds us.”

“So us having sex would have fed you? Because you’re an Incubus?” He nodded.

“It should have in theory, when we climaxed I would have effectively taken a part of your soul that had been corrupted.” As her eyes grew wide he continued quickly. “This wouldn’t have harmed you and would have healed quickly. You wouldn’t have felt any downsides other than, well lustful. For a time.”

“I have felt lustful all week Levash and I can’t do anything about it.” Alice blushed “that’s not an invitation or challenge just, fact.” He nodded

“That makes sense. Long story short I was unable to feed on you as I would a normal human, I don’t know why. I should have realised when you were unaffected by Sloths drinks. Regardless, the other side of this I need to explain is how Demons are made. Demons can be born, just as humans are, I think it’s slightly faster though the incubation period is around one month on earth.” Alice laughed

“Yeah slightly quicker then.” He nodded seriously.

“Demons however can also be made. The corruption we spread when exposed to large amounts can plant, for lack of a better word, a seed within the potential demon. This seed then absorbs corruption from around the potential and when exposed to enough expands, spreading the collected corruption outwards. This turns the potential, physically and mentally into a demon. These are indistinguishable from born demons.”

Alice stood up walking toward the door.

“I need a moment.”

Alice stood taking deep breaths, she didn’t want him to continue, she wasn’t stupid she could piece together what he was about to say but until he did it felt less, less real. For his part he sat quietly not smothering her nor pestering her to continue. Nodding to herself more than anything she walked back to the bed and practically fell on it. He waited for her and she nodded for him to go on.

“This process of turning a Demon works best and fastest in our home world, Lestia–”

“Not hell?” He just laughed.

“No, we have nothing to do with the afterlife at all. We have found that most realms allow this corruptive process to take place in potentials except for four that do not. I can’t tell you why but something about them halts the process completely. Earth for thousands of years has been one of those realms.” Alice looked up to him entirely focused on his next words. She didn’t want to get her hopes up, but– “Demons had been able to come and go from Earth for thousands of years and the corruption that we spread did little to the inhabitants here, admittedly for a time Earth was where most Demons came to feed as distasteful as the thought may be for you.” Alice shrugged. “For us it meant we could be selective in who became Demons, while your fantasies may portray us as more chaotic, and to a degree we are. Having that freedom was appreciated.” Alice nodded, she didn’t want to think about Earth being a Demon buffet but his reasoning made sense at least.

“You said you had been able to, as in they can’t anymore come to earth freely?” She saw Levash deflate slightly none of the cocky energetic Demon she had first met, he seemed, hurt.

“There is so much to tell you of our history and the strife we have suffered, to be brief. Four hundred years ago Demons were enslaved by beings we know as Celestials and you know as Angels. Angels kidnapped people from many many different realms and forced us Demons to corrupt them in our own realm. It has been the greatest violation of our kind, all freedom removed and treated like, like breeding stock.” Anger was slowly rising in Levash, his face growing into a sneer. ” They kept us as slaves, four hundred years ago a human was kidnapped as was all too common to be corrupted and turned into a Demon. He had some training on Earth though, he fought supernaturals? I don’t remember the specifics. He died a long time ago but before he did he managed to traverse through all of Lestia, got to the bottom layer where the Celestials stayed and destroyed their portal to earth. He stayed and fought with us but didn’t last long enough for the corruption to fully change him, we were severely punished in the aftermath to ensure no one else thought about destroying portals back to their original home worlds to protect the beings there. We had no way of coming to earth nor have the Celestials since. Outside of the odd summons from witches who didn’t know better. I managed to escape to earth for a few years in the eighties because of this.”

“Sex on the beach?” Alice interrupted, he gave a small smile.

“I was recollected after a few years on earth but it was enough, I couldn’t remain in captivity and neither could the majority of demons. We fought, we have spent twenty years fighting back against them and it has cost us greatly, we have lost so many but we have fought for our freedom, and when the Celestials created a series of unstable portals to Earth with the goal of replenishing their soldiers from the human population here, we managed to sneak a few groups through, first in Leeds and now here. We’re here not to enjoy ourselves but to get help, we need to stop the Celestials once and for all. As you can imagine, convincing Earth of this when we look as we do, has been difficult.” Alice nodded but struggled to process it all, hundreds of years of slavery, war, fighting and apparently Demons were the good guys in all this.

“How does this relate to me please?” Her voice was small but she needed to hear him say it.

“The war is the reason I would never do this on purpose. As for the seeds of corruption analogy, it is to say that this did occur with yourself Alice, it was planted and now it seems to have borne fruit.”

Again Levash waited patiently as Alice fell backwards leaning against the headboard of the bed. She spoke quietly knowing the answer.

“Can I stop this and not be a Demon?” There was silence for a few beats before Levash responded.

“In theory yes, once the seed has been planted, if it is starved of corruption it’ll die out and the potential soul will recover. Again this is why I left, I hoped my absence would starve it like a fire and oxygen. I assume whatever allowed the corruption to take hold caused it to grow on its own. To answer your question we can’t stop it because the seed has already sprouted and spread its roots, you’ve already become a Demon, Alice.” A sob forced it away from her.

“But I don’t have horns or anything, I haven’t changed!”

“Alice I know you know that’s not true, you may not look outwardly like a demon. Yet, but you have changed. At the risk of sounding rude you’ve grown more attractive in line with most Succubi.”

“Yet.” Alice responded with a scoff. ” So this isn’t the last of it, I’m going to keep changing.” Alice sat up with anger swelling inside her, like an inferno channelling through her veins.

“What are the odds the first guy I fuck in two years is not only a Demon, but because of it now so am I.”

“Know that I didn’t mean for this to happen at all, given our history. I would never subject anyone to what we are currently fighting. I will admit I took joy in it before them and when they have been removed from our realm I hope I will find joy in it again, but I would never force someone to fight alongside us. On the chance that we lose I would never drag anyone back down to those pits with us.” She wanted to shout and rave, how it doesn’t matter if he meant to do it or not he has, but she couldn’t.

The look in his eyes, this truly pained him as much as it did her at the realisation all she could do was slump down where she sat and started to cry. Levash moved forward quicker and more gracefully than she would have expected and grabbed her before she fell off the side of the bed. And there she cried, for how long she didn’t truly know but eventually she had been led down on the bed that moments ago she didn’t want to touch and curled into him, he waited patiently as she did, not rushing her along.

“What should I expect?” Levash looked down at her, she had come to rest in the crook of his arm and almost soaked the side of his shirt through with tears.

“From the changes?” She nodded. “What you would expect mostly, physically Succubi are the most varied in skin tones and sizes, you may grow taller or shorter, you may end up pink, or blue or red, you may stay white I couldn’t guess.” What were the odds she could just keep looking as she did now, with her luck– “Beyond that, the obvious, all Succubi have claws, fangs, horns, wings and a tail. How they appear, how many of them excetera is genetics. On average though Incubi have vestigial wings not really capable of flight, smaller horns and the tails are often bladed, the ends feeling like sharpened rock, Succubi’ tails are normally spaded with the end feeling more like.” He took a moment to think, staring up towards the ceiling. She was still furious but she had nowhere to channel the anger, and the only other thing that eddied in the mess of her emotions was lust, and of that he inspired much. “I can’t think how to compare it, sorry. They’re softer and more malleable, most Succubi can change the shape of them as well, which has.” He coughed. “Uses.”

“Gross.” Her reaction was instantaneous causing him to laugh, rocking his chest.

“We are beings of lust who have had thousands of years to hone our craft, I promise you it gets worse.” It was her time to laugh now, at just how absurd off all this was. She was laying on a Demon’s chest making jokes while she was being turned into one, no she had become a Demon already. Christina was going to have a field day. “As for what to expect first it could be any of them, your eyes look different though so I guess that’s done.”

“Different how?”

“They practically glow with your emotions, same colour though, Amber.” Well that’s going to be a giveaway then, not that Alice had any poker face to begin with.

“Will I still be me?” He looked at her and all humour faded from his face.

“I have never been human, I was born a Demon and have lived as a Demon. From what I have seen, for someone to have fallen to corruption the want for it has to have existed prior to their transformation, in your case we willingly had sex, whether you regret it now or not.” She quickly butted in.

“I don’t.” Alice cleared her throat. “I mean I wish I wasn’t a Demon or whatever but I don’t regret sleeping with you. That part was fun. Just I’d rather you not run out next time.”

“Next time?” She could practically hear the shit eating grin on his face.

“That time. I misspoke.” She felt his chest rumble with laughter again.

“As I was saying I don’t believe it changes the person just removes the restrictions their given society has placed on them. You may grow more accustomed to sex and the various aspects of it, you may enjoy feeding from the lust you create, but at the end of it all you will still fundamentally be you.”

“Silver linings then.” She sighed. “Is there anything else I need to know?”

“Have you had sex at all since?” She sat up looking back at him and saw he was still relaxed but made no move to stop her.

“No I went two years before you I–” she realised what he was really saying “you mean, to feed?” He nodded.

“You don’t need to have sex although it’ll probably be the easiest source, but just being around lust and causing it will allow you to drain small amounts from the non-Demons around you. This whole club is designed on that premise, each floor is dedicated to one sin–”

“And you cause each sin in the relevant floor and then feed off the people who come.” He looked at her with a bit of shock and nodded. “I’m not a complete idiot. What does that mean though, if I stood out there would I–” holding her fingers in quotations–” feed from those around me or do I need to do anything? Is this why I’ve been feeling exhausted and hearing voices today?” He sat up instantly.

“It would explain why you’re feeling exhausted and if we go outside and dance that should be enough to work up the lust of those around us trust me, as for how to. You’ll know. Final point though, you’ve been hearing voices?” He looked, intrigued almost, not concerned necessarily.

“Well singular, one voice. It’s not told me it’s God or to go and kill John Lennon so I’m hoping it’s just some weird Demon thing and not, you know. Mental illness.” He continued to stare at her, trying to solve the issue in his head.

“What has it said?”

“Honestly very little. Mostly just useless little comments and snarky remarks. It’s very petty.” She felt a chill in the silence that followed.

“I’ve never heard of a Demon hearing any voices during the change? It may be related to why you have changed though. Please keep a track of what it says and let me know if anything changes. I’ll give you my number before we leave.”

“You’re not worried then? I’m not developing a Demon altar ego that’s going to take over the world?” He laughed at her comment, something she was quickly growing to enjoy.

“As much as you may not want to hear it you are the Demon alter-ego, whatever you’re hearing might be tied to why you changed but I imagine it’ll fade as you adapt. Regardless, we will keep a check on it.” Sitting he pushed himself to the edge of the bed so they were together again. “Were there any odd humans in your family? Anything that may have been, well, inhuman?” She huffed a laugh.

“Well my mother joined a cult and willingly chose to move to Yorkshire, which is pretty inhuman, other than that though nothing out of the ordinary.” He just shrugged, rising for the bed.

“Have you noticed anything else?” Thinking about it she remembered two more issues.

“Yes actually, firstly, my friend who’s a Were, when I last saw her was very on edge around me, any reason?”

“Simply most creatures and people who are more attuned let’s say, can sense what we are regardless of how we look. I wouldn’t say it’s off putting to them or an issue, usually. But they can tell what we are, meaning your friend most likely knew you had become a Demon. How did they react?”

“Mostly just got really tense and pushed me to come and speak to you and yeah that makes sense now. She didn’t want to be the one to say it.” He shrugged. “Also, this is maybe not related to Demons but, I don’t think I’m getting cold? It’s weird but, well it’s freezing out, there’s snow and I’m fine in just this dress. Is that a demon thing or am I weird?” He laughed.

“You’re definitely a little weird, but no, that’s common among all demons. Some layers of Lestia are frozen, some are burning hot. Like the stereotypical renditions of hell. We’re not effected by temperature changes like most creatures, bodies are basically just walking furnaces regardless. You’ll be grateful for it, less restrictions on what we can wear.” He wagged his eyebrows and she couldn’t help but laugh.

“Sadly I think what I’m going to wear is the least of my worries.”

“You’d be surprised how important what we wear is, or how little of it. Anyway, anything else?”

“The whole not getting off thing?” He laughed.

“Think of it as encouragement to commit sin, if you can’t slake your own desires you’re more likely to seek out another to fulfil them, ergo speeding up your corruption, it should have been fine from the moment you actually changed over. Anything else? Might as well get them all out now.” Alice shook her head. ” In that case let’s focus on working out what the voice is for now, at least we have time, one of the perks, Demons don’t age like humans do.”

“What? Are you planning on helping me?” Alice rose with him and gave him a doubtful look too which he looked offended.

“I told you I’d never willingly do this to someone, but now it’s happened I’m not going to abandon you. I’ll show you how we live, how to thrive. I’ll provide you with everything you’ll need to know especially if we have to return to Lestia without it being free.” Alice realised the enormity of what he promised, this was essentially demonic tutoring which when put that way sounded ridiculous but, he really was willing to help, she’d actually have a way forward. Stepping forward she took his hand and nodded to the door.

“That means a lot, but let’s start with just feeding? I don’t think I’ll be able to keep my eyes open through any more history lessons.” He rolled his eyes with a chuckle and as he turned and opened the door, the pair of Demons stepped out into the club.

—-

The dance floor had filled considerably since Alice had left, as Levash led her forward she noticed how many humans were dancing with the Demons. It was strange to consider if what Levash had told her was true, she didn’t count among the humans here anymore. How did she feel about that? Would she tell everyone? Julia already knew but Christina, she seemed wary of Demons shockingly before Alice left, she wanted to put this just down to protecting her friend, but what if– And would she have to get her ID updated, Supernaturals operating in society had to have special ID’s identifying them and what they are. Alice Everhart – Demon. Or Succubus. It just sounded ridiculous.

She was brought back to reality as Levash squeezed her hand, looking over his shoulder toward her with concern apparent. She could have these thoughts when she got home, maybe over a bottle of wine, or two. Working their way through the crowd the feelings that washed over her last week began to seep back in, the sense of the bodies moving around them, the feeling of each errant touch and bump as bodies moved past each other on the dance floor. Coming to a stop Levash spun on the spot and leaning forward he shouted by her ear.

“Are you going to be fine or should we get another drink first?” The familiar scent of citrus took over her senses as he leaned close.

“Can we even get drunk?”

“We live for indulgence, of course we can. Come on!” Pulling her further on they made the rest of the way to the bar coming to a stop between a group of men and women, and a large purple Demon with two rows of horns similar to the bouncer. Levash waved to the bartender, the same one from earlier, she seemingly ignored him. When Alice turned back to Levash she noticed him looking over her shoulder.

“What’s up?” Nodding behind her she turned, seeing the group of humans, people behind her. There were three girls and two guys and one of the girls was staring back at Levash. Twisting back to him she noticed he was watching her with a smile. Leaning forward he spoke in hushed tones.

“We’ve got a while before we get any drinks, how about we try and solve your exhaustion problem now?” Alice shrugged, she decided unconsciously at some point, she needed to just disassociate with everything Demon for now, if it works it works and she can deal with the consequences of that later. “Follow my lead.” Spinning her on the spot he tucked her into his side and walked to the opening of the group.

“Ladies, gentlemen. How are you finding your evening thus far?” The girl who had been watching Levash before, looked different, it was like the spotlight was on her, a purple outline, almost shimmering around her. One of the men whose eyes seemed to be roaming the deep plunge of her dress had the same shimmer. The brunette with the shimmer spoke for the group.

“Great thanks, we were just saying how cool the whole different floors thing is. Which do you prefer?” The whole group seemed enamoured by Levash, even one of the guys, but the taller of the two seemed intensely focused on her, she gave him a quick smile and saw the shimmer around him pulse almost. Odd. Levash responded for both of them.

“If you are asking which layer we reign from, lust would be correct.” The girl leaning on the bar furthest from them, eyes went wide at the comment.

“You’re Demons?” The shimmering brunette turned to her with almost annoyance on her face.

“Of course they are Mara, have you seen them?” Mara, apparently just threw her hands up in defence.

“They don’t even have horns and stuff Ez.”

“Look at their eyes, have you ever seen humans with glowing eyes?” Alice blinked, looking at Levash who just had his usual cocky smile watching them bicker. Alice wanted to ask why her eyes were glowing again but decided to save it till after the lesson. The brunette Ez looked back at them tilting her head as she asked.

“Why don’t you have horns and stuff all the other Demons have though?” Levash laughed and she watched as the shimmer around Ez rippled in time with it, the third girl who had yet to be named had a similar glow now doing the same.

“Do all Demons have horns here? How do you know they’re not better blended in?” The guy who wasn’t watching her like a prized cut of meat looked shocked at that and almost a little. Fearful? Did he expect a demon bar not to be filled with demons? She noticed the vaguest hint of red about him, just slightly unlike the purples of the others present. The third girl who had yet to be named and had blonde hair a similar shade to what Alice used to have.

“So you are both Demons though?” Levash spoke for the pair of them.

“Yes, Succubi and Incubi.” The blonde turned on Alice next simply asking.

“Really?” Before she could think she said the first thing that sprang to her mind.

“We’re all kindred of the dark truth here.” She swore she heard Levash stifle a laugh to the side of her but turning he looked just as composed as usual. The blonde seemed satisfied and Ez seemed just about ready to burst.

“That’s so cool, what’s hell like?” Hoping she wouldn’t have to answer another question she was glad when Levash held up his hand.

“We can answer as many questions as you want but why not do so while dancing? I’m sure it will be more pleasurable.” She practically ran forward and took Levash’s proffered hand; he looked back to Alice before he let himself be pulled away.

“Anyone you would like to dance with dear? At his emphasis she assumed this was related to feeding and if it had to be lust, might as well pick the man whose eyes never left her. Crooking her finger towards him he walked forward snatching her hand out of midair, the cocky smile on his significantly less flattering than Levash’.

“Micheal, and I would be honoured.” She gave him a smile and followed Levash back onto the dance floor.

The crowd was moving and bumping from all directions, she kept hold of Micheal making sure he didn’t get separated from her but it was almost hard to move with so many people. Eventually seeing Levash come to a stop close to the glass barrier looking down on the other layers she decided to move in behind him and pulled Micheal in front. His hands instantly latched onto her hips pulling her forward into him, as he leaned into her his head hanging over her, a part of her wanted to recoil, disgusted at the touch of the drunken man before her. Another part, a larger part than she wanted to admit, knew exactly what to do. She leaned closer into him letting her hand splay out on his chest creating some distance between them before turning to dance against him. His arms found their way coiling around her as his hands again grabbed her hips as he tried to grind into her. She could feel all of her senses being overtaken, the smell of sweat and sex seemed to taint the air of the floor, the loud booming EDM filled the hall with each beat bodies swayed hard and heavy, and as his hands continued to roam higher gripping her sternum and travelling still further up, Alice let go.

Falling back into the man’s arms, her head resting against his firm chest, she felt something odd. Something inside her pulsed intime with the beat, not of the music but of the man’s heart as it began to race at her touch. She had felt this before, the first night she was here as she bumped between different bodies, and as she focused on the feeling she could feel her energy returning. No not just returning, growing, she felt powerful, turning in the man’s arms, she saw his eyes blown out, he blinked at her almost like he could barely comprehend what was happening, and if he couldn’t Alice didn’t care. Taking a grip on his tee she pulled him forward into a heavy kiss, he quickly reciprocated and it didn’t take long for her to be pinned to the glass railing, between his firm body and the drop to the other layers of the club. The kiss began to grow hectic and passionate, as his hands trailed higher reaching for the shoulders of her dress before being jerked away.

Levash pulled Micheal off Alice who stumbled back in confusion, seemingly regaining some sense. Looking around she saw, Ez leaning against the same wall, her lipstick was as smeared as Alice imagined hers was, she looked as dazed as Micheal had, her eyes showing no recognition of what was going on around them. Levash snapped his fingers in front of Alice’s face causing her to blink before snapping back to reality. She saw the smile on his and was infinitely more attracted to it than Micheals who seemed to have stumbled off into the crowd taking Ez back with him. It wasn’t just a smile she saw on his face though, she could see the lustful gaze he gave her.

“Should have realised you’d be a natural, though you probably took a little more than is Kosher.” Levash shrugged. “He’ll be fine regardless, how was it?” How was it, how much could she admit, it was orgasmic, it felt like power, and sex, and God. Nothing she had ever felt before. Levash seemed to read this from her laughing. “You’ll get used to it in time but I promise, it never loses its edge.” Alice found her returning his smile.

“I hope not, I mean. What the fuck? That was just a kiss and I feel, I feel–”

“Strong? Powerful? Alluring? I assure you right now Alice, you are all three.” Leaning forward he claimed her lips on his own and the pair rekindled the passionate kiss Alice had just lost, only this time it was different. Something in her recognised, this wasn’t about food, or fulfilling some need, this was pure want. Pulling back she had felt a sultry smile form on her face,

“If that’s us fed, we could aim for a repeat of last week? I seem to remember promising you a birthday and, it only feels fair that I give you at least a small gift?” The same predatory smile she saw last week appeared again on him in kind, and she didn’t realise she could be more attracted to it.

“Lead the way.”

Alice was eager to get home but once out on the street insisted on walking home.

“We’re talking a forty minute walk here, if this is some tease and denial thing Alice I’d have to say I’m impressed.” Laughing she walked ahead, heading down the road away from the club and its line of people and into the night. Levash followed and stayed quiet watching her attention dart around watching people as they passed and just enjoying the sights, a group of three vampires passed them and other than a brief nod in their direction paid them no heed. Alice laughed at the interaction just turned to him with carefree glee thrumming through her.

“Do you know the last time I did this?” He furrowed his brow watching her walk backwards.

“What walked home?”

“No idiot, being out at night.” He quirked a brow.

“You came to the club last week, it was night then.” She shook her head.

“It’s not the same, when you were last on Earth in the eighties–”

“Making sex on the beach’s.” She rolled her eyes.

“Right, what was the nightlife like at the bar you worked at.”

“Loud, mostly a lot of drunk Floridians which in the eighties at least, was hectic.”

“And when they left?”

“They went home? What’s your point?” She gestured around them in a circle.

“Look around, do you see any humans here, in groups or on their own?” He nodded across the road to a petite black woman with an equally dark skinned vampire.

“Doesn’t count, she’s with a vampire, find a human in a group of humans or on their own.” He looked around but quickly gave up.

“There is none?”

“Exactly! Since supernaturals came out humans stopped going out at night. I guess at first it was a fear thing, you find out vampires and such are hanging about at night and that they feed on humans, you’d minimise contact right? But then it just stuck, it became a thing, humans travelled during the day, supes at night. If you needed to go somewhere at night, you didn’t. Or you paid for transport, taxis, tube, buses if you didn’t have to wait long outside for them. The point is, you only saw the night through windows, out of your house or cars. I never got to grow up in a world where I could travel around unaccosted. And now you’ve told me that other supes will know I’m a Demon on sight right?”

“Not all supes, just those with higher senses, as you are right now if you bump into most Fae, you’d probably pass for human.” Alice waved off his comment, spinning back to face forward as she walked.

“So some might see me as human, but are Fae attacking people at night in droves? Most Fae go out during the day anyway.”

“There are plenty of malicious fae, but I guess, if they’re magically attuned they’d know you’re not human. Right so, just so I get this right, we’re walking back across London, because you’ve never gotten to walk around freely at night? That’s why we’re not back at your flat already?” Alice frowned, turning to face him but saw the smirk on his face. “You should have just said. In any case, let’s take a longer route back, we can cut through Finsbury park and head further east, I know somewhere we can go before yours.” Levash took her hand and led her out into the night, a smile on her face.

The walk had been, more than anything Alice could imagine. It was so simple and it was places she had been before, but seeing it all in a new light, no fear. No hesitation. They had crossed paths with all manner of supes and none even batted an eye at the pair. It was slightly concerning how many vampires they bumped into feeding on humans but Levash pushed her along and when out of earshot made very clear that while the vamps wouldn’t bother them, they might if they interrupted their meal. Mark had called as promised at eleven and after about ten minutes of assuring that she was fine, he called off the cavalry. While on the idea she shot a text to Julia to confirm things had gone well and she would update her tomorrow. Julia got back not long after hearting her message. She sent one to Christina and it was read but no response came through. She must just be with her date, shrugging it off she pocketed her phone and Levash sticking to his promise took her on a full night time tour of London. Ending up far off track the pair found themselves walking along the Warwick reservoir, Alice pulled Levash down so they both fell onto the bank and sat watching the moonlight twinkle of the surface of the water, it was surprisingly quiet for the London she was used to.

“I have a question.” Alice looked to Levash whose gaze was focused on the distance.

“What?”

“Kindred of the dark truth? I’m sorry, what awful shows you have been watching.” As he finished his sentence he burst into laughter causing Alice’s cheeks to heat with embarrassment, apparently demons could still blush, great.

“I’m sorry I don’t have an instant repertoire of phrases to seem mysterious and edgy, Mr dark and broody.”

“I am many things, broody is not one of them. You do need to find your niche though, something to use to draw people in when you need to feed.” Laying back onto the grass Alice considered her options.

“How often will I need to feed?”

“When your transformation is over, depending on how much you take and how you take it, roughly I’d say once a week? Although if you’re not using your abilities you’ll probably be able to get away with just sitting at the bar in Lust a few nights a week. During your transformation though you should do so more regularly, if you’re not sleeping with them I’d say daily, but different people if possible.” Levash patted the ground, feeling the slightly damp grass under his hand.

“If you’re checking to see if the grass will ruin your shirt, it will. And as payment for turning me into something, so unholy I expect you to ruin it with a smile.” Rolling his eyes he delicately lay back onto the grass looking to Alice with barely concealed Mirth.

“So, if I don’t use any abilities I don’t need to feed as often?” Levash shook his head, watching the loose dark curls on his head bob was almost hypnotic. “And when you say how I feed?”

“If you have sex, the lust you’re absorbing will be more pure? It’ll give you more energy than if you’re drawing out the lust from just, say a kiss.”

“Will it feel better?” He nodded. “Silver linings indeed. Also I saw purple outlines around the people we fed on and one of the other girls. Was that a representation of their lust?” Levash yet again slightly surprised nodded.

“Yes we can see the aura of lust on people, it is what makes picking our targets easier, other demons can see other coloured auras for their respective sin.”

“So would red be what, wrath?” He nodded looking curious.

“That would be yes, why?”

“The lanky black guy that was with the group had a slightly red outline to him, so I figured red was wrath.”

“You could see a red outline?” She nodded simply. “That is very interesting. Succubi and Incubi can only see Lust, as others can only see their sin.”

“Does this mean I’m not a Succubi?” He laughed

“There’s no worries there, you are definitely a Succubus, all of your changes have been tied to lust, you fed from lust, it came from a lust Demon etcetera. This must just be something else about you, interesting.”

“One other question, why did you stick your head to my stomach like a conch after, last time?” He appeared in thought for a moment before nodding his head.

“Demons have a system that is seperate from any human tracks that funnels the stolen sin around our bodies to power us, it almost creates like a. Well a–”

“A pool?” Levas shrugged.

“Sure, that pool pulses almost like a heartbeat, channelling around our body. When the corruption sets in this is created albeit a temporary one that can starve out. I was listening for that behind your heart beat and sure enough, I heard it.”

Levash propped himself up on an elbow looking down towards her and changed the topic.

“Your processing this better than I expected, I thought..” Alice held up a hand stopping him.

“I’m not, the second I start to change, change. It’s over, I’ll enter full panic mode, so in the meantime I want to find as many positives as I can. Find something to look back on when I’m, well, having an anxiety attack over it all.” Pausing for a moment she looked back to Levash who had yet to move. “Speaking of, why do you not have any of the, ya know, usual demon attachments on?” Reaching out his hand picked up a stray lock of the now white blonde hair framing her face.

“I’ve been to Earth before, multiple times. Every time I have, I have used this face. I guess simply, I’m not used to being able to be myself on Earth yet.”

“Is it rude to ask if I can see you?” He smiled down at her.

“I’ll show you but not until you start to change, it’ll give you something to look forward to then.” Rolling her eyes she responded with a scoff.

“Is that supposed to entice me, Demon? If so, you’re slipping.” He looked over his shoulder and then turned back to Alice, his eyes had changed slightly, the brown morphing into the burnt orange she had seen before, a faint glow evident underneath.

“If you want to be enticed all you have to do is ask.” Leaning forward his lips seized hers and in that moment, everything else ceased to exist, no existential worries just her, and Levash, as he rolled on top of her, his knees forcing her legs to spread she couldn’t imagine a better place to be. She was also grateful to find him capable of scratching her itch.

They finally made it back to the apartment building and stumbling into the lobby she saw the clock above the counter at half four. The larger guard who had blown her off was sitting at the counter, he watched as the pair stumbled in and his eyes never left them as they waited for the elevator. Once it arrived and the doors closed behind them Levash nodded in the direction of the desk.

“Has he been giving you issues?” Shaking her head she responded.

“Nothing direct, he just clearly hates Demons, I’d hazard a guess at most supes. Actually he knew you were a Demon. Why would that be?”

“He could be supernatural himself? Wouldn’t know why he’d hate us if that’s the case though we haven’t had any issues with any groups.” Levash shrugged and the doors opened onto Alice’s floor so she decided to drop it.

As Alice fumbled with the locks she heard movement on the other side of the door. Chris must still be up with Mark. Opening the door quietly she found most of the lights in the flat where on and at the sound of the door, Chris did stumble out of her room. At first she looked worried as she began to ask how Alice was but her eyes quickly caught on Levash and turned to pure fury.

“Alice, is this the Demon?” Alice nodded.

“Yeah, this is Levash, we, well we did a lot of talking and I’m pretty satisfied that he’s done nothing untoward. We can talk about it now if you want? He was just walking me home but I promised him a shower.” Christina took in the pair’s state, seeing Alice’s mussed hair, the grass stains on all Levash’s shirt, the swollen lips.

“You certainly look satisfied.” Levash butted in with an award winning smile.

“I always try my best.” Christina’s eyes locked onto him with a scowl.

“We’re not on joking terms yet so count yourself lucky you’re not showering in holy water.” Levash blinked, sensing the tension Alice quickly led him to her ensuite, showing him how it worked she went to get a towel. Coming back she could see he had already gotten ready, his ruined clothes a pool at his feet.

“I erm, I got the towel.” Alice responded weakly. Levash sauntered over, taking the towel and giving Alice a drawn out kiss.

“It’s a shame you need to call off your attack dog, otherwise I’d invite you to join me.” Alice’s eyes fell lower.

“I really wish I could avoid this conversation but I don’t think she was joking about the holy water comment, and honestly I don’t want to get hit in the splash zone so, shoo, shower.” Levash turned the shower on and shut the door of the frosted glass shower, the last thing Alice saw was his ass, and God what an ass.

Heading back into the living room Alice found Christina sitting at the kitchen room table, two glasses of water poured, somehow at barely five feet and in her PJ’s she still managed to look intimidating.

“Sit I have a lot of questions I want to get through ” Taking her lead Alice sat waiting for Chris to continue, she took a sip from her glass and was grateful to find out it was either regular water, or holy water is a load of holy huey.

“First, have you drunk anything tonight, do you think any of this was some form of magical manipulation?”

“No.” Christina’s brows raised.

“No to which?”

“Both, I didn’t drink anything in the end and I don’t think he’s used any magic on me, I’m not sure if he can.” Christina spoke with a sceptical tone.

“You don’t think Incubi might have some kind of manipulative charisma?” Before Alice could respond she felt a clawing at the back of her skull and the voice returned speaking neutrally.

“Liliteans, that is Incubi and Sucubi can influence others but it’s far more reliant on charm than magic.” Alice tried not to flinch as the voice invaded her mind and spoke calmly.

“Their abilities are more focused on charm than magic.

“So do you think he’s charmed you into bringing him home and not being as mad as you were when you left?” Christina still sat with the same incredulous look on her face.

“No look everything that has happened so far tonight I have consented to and been of sound mind, if you ask me another question about being manipulated I’m going to bed though and you can let him out.” Christina waited a moment following the outburst, she looked to be considering the words carefully. Frankly the affair was already boring Alice, she had given countless talks about safety to Christina so she imagines this is karma but–

“Okay what did he do to you last week?”

That was the question, how could Alice even explain it. Alice decided to give the cliff notes version, excluding the most sensitive topics Levash touched on and saving the biggest drop for last.

“He did let me know though that, well there’s no reversing it as it’s already happened. He left to try and starve it so basically nothing would go further but it has on its own.”

Christina had grown more shocked throughout the conversation quickly losing her edge as Alice trudged on, as she started to talk about the corruption aspect Christina had come round holding Alice’s hand as she finished. She responded to her softly

“So if that’s already too far does that mean–” At that moment Levash exited her room, he wore the same stained pants but had seemingly forgotten his shirt in favour of a hoodie that has been forgotten at the back of her wardrobe since she was with her ex.

“She’s a Demon, Christina right?” The softer tone dropped in an instant Christina rising and moving over to the Demon before Alice could stop her.

“And we have you to thank for that, don’t we, got what you wanted then?” He laughed, he fucking laughed, does he have no self preservation instincts! Alice thought to herself.

“Don’t antagonise her any further.”Alice shouted before Levash could get another smarmy comment out. “And Chris, he’s explained stuff to me, he didn’t mean to do this.” She turned back to Alice with the same patronising look on her face from earlier.

“And you just believed him? Alice I’m not sure why you’re not freaking out more. You’ve never liked supe stuff and now you’re a literal Demon! You want me to believe everything’s fine and he’s just some good natured idiot but how can I when you’re not even acting like you right now?” Alice could feel that same fire bubbling in her veins, the one usually channelled towards lust, pushing her further in her wants, she could feel it turning the other way though as Christina’s voice raised. The voice tickled at Alice’s spine.

“Control your pet, she’s acting irrational.” Ignoring the voice Alice forced herself to be calm.

“He told me things that aren’t mine to share, long story short Christina I believe he wouldn’t want to do this to me, but he’s agreed to help me regardless.”

“So that’s it then? He’s spun you some story about being really regretful and you’ve just ate it up ready to go jump back in his arms?” Calm, Alice thought to herself. Be calm.

“I believe him, Christina, and I can’t change what’s happened.”

“Says Who?!” Christina was shouting, pointing between the Demon, Levash for his part looked uncomfortable but not overly surprised at the outburst. “We only have his word that this can’t be reversed, hell we only have his word that you actually are a Demon, what proof do you even have?” The heat raged inside of Alice, an inferno churned within her veins begging to be released or used lest it consume her.

“You need to leave her now, she does not know what she is doing.” Ignorant to the voice protesting her actions Christina continued.

“Is this just part of being a Demon then? You’ll believe any nonsense said to you as long as the person doing it is attractive?” Her words ending in a shout, Levash looked ready to interrupt himself but was cut off as Alice finally exploded. She didn’t notice as she spoke how twisted and distorted her voice became.

“Shut up!” Christina stopped in shock at the menace in Alice’s voice. “I have told you he didn’t mean to do this. That should be enough for you. I’m not just accepting this, but would you rather I be freaking out? That I came home crying into your arms about how fucked I am? Who would that help Christina? ” Alice ended her question realising how close she had gotten to Chris who stood in shock. Finally snapping out of it a bit as Alice stopped speaking Christina took a few steps back. Alice saw the fear in her eyes, before she could say anything else Christina retreated to her room and Alice heard the door lock behind her.

Turning back to Levash he looked shocked but not surprised at the outburst although his eyes remained locked on her forehead. Before she could question it she felt something hot dripping down her face. Swiping her fingers across her cheek she pulled away to see blood smearing across them. Looking back at Levash, confused, she saw a small smile on his face.

“Well she definitely believes you’re a demon now.” Practically running to her bathroom Alice looked into the steamed mirror and saw them. Two dark spikes sticking from just above her forehead. They could barely be bigger than half an inch and not that wide around but they caused some damage coming through, the skin around it looking split as blood continued to languidly leak from around them.

“It’s normal the blood will come and go as they grow and once it’s done the skin will heal flush with them. We have pretty standard horns, no extra ridges or plates growing with them so much less messy than it could be.” Levash said, leaning against the doorway.

“This is less messy?” Alice said, pointing to the trial of blood dripping down to her neck. Levash leaned forward placing a peck on her cheek.

“I’m saying it could be worse. I’m sorry if I made things worse with your friend, I perhaps shouldn’t have gone for humour given the situation.” Alice sighed thinking back of the fear she had seen on her best friend’s face.

“She’ll come around I hope. I won’t be a danger to her at all will I?” Levash shrugged.

“Not by virtue of existing, control your temper and don’t feed from her and she’ll be fine.”

“Is that normal for us to get like that?” He laughed.

“It’s possible for all of us, but you’re in the midst of the change; you’re more, let’s say delicate. Plus she was prodding you, you’d be within your rights to have blown up if you were human.” Levash leaned forward, taking Alice’s chin and tilting it up to look at him. “If it’s any consolation your voice sounded powerful, very sexy.” Alice laughed and let herself be kissed by him again.

“Anything I should do not to cover my bed in blood from the horns?” Shrugging, he responded.

“Put a towel down? I never had to grow new ones, sorry.”

“That must have been really unfortunate for your mum coming out with those.” The deep laugh echoed out of him.

“I meant that they didn’t split the skin as they grew, luckily as a child they were basically non-existent. Anyway, before I forget.” Levash handed Alice a note with a number on. “I’m going to get back to the club, call me when you’re awake? Let me know if anything else happens?” Alice nodded and was rewarded with another kiss to her forehead.

“Good, well try not to do anything I wouldn’t do in the meantime.”

“That feels like it gives me a frightening amount of options.” He waggled his eyebrows at that causing her to laugh.

“I’ll speak to you tomorrow.”

“You best count on it, I’m gonna need to learn how to care of these bad boys.” He shook his head, and left the flat.

Closing the door behind him she was left in the silent closed flat she could feel blood leaking down the side of her face, grass stains still smeared across the backs of her calves and dress. And the realisation that she was really going to become a Demon. A sob escaped her at the realisation, she had scared her best friend who was just looking out for her in the aftermath and now she has fucking horns growing from her head. She quickly walked to her room ripping the dress from her body as she went. The shower was quick and rough trying to clean as quickly as possible as she continued to cry to herself.

Getting out of the shower she already saw blood starting to leak around the edges of her new stubby horns. She took a red towel from her wardrobe and wrapped it around a pillow. She decided to sleep nude so as not to risk getting blood on anything else and lay down. Unlike the rest of the week she fell straight to sleep and slept deeply. No strange dreams, no voices, no lust, sadly she was in for a rude awakening.
