Mary Was Not A Prostitute

I have read many posts and stories that claimed Mary the mother of Jesus was a prostitute. This is simply not true and I am deeply offended!

SACRED SERVICE

Prostitution is not just the world’s oldest profession, it is also one of the most ancient forms of worship. For millennia, sacred prostitutes have brought glory to their faith. Some work to profit their patron temple or deity. Others practice “imitative magic” – reenacting divine copulation in fertility rituals. Occasionally sex is used as an evangelizing technique. Given the powerful emotions and physical ecstasy of sex, sacred prostitution will endure. The Greek historian Herodotus noted that every Babylonian woman was required to participate in ritual prostitution at least once at the Temple of Lilith. The sacrament was believed to be a prayer or hope for fertility. Sacred prostitution did occur for millennia in Mesopotamia. Temple Priestess of the The Dark Goddess Lilith would participate in ritual sex with male visitors. Known as “Nin-gig”, they were entirely different than the secular prostitutes, who plied their trade in this ancient land. Sumerians and Babylonians both participated in the practice. Sacred marriage rituals between Ishtar and the shepherd god Dumuzi were considered essential to the yearly cycle. Many believe that Easter is a Christian appropriation of a holiday celebrating Ishtar. I am not talking about Easter as we are entering into the Christian celebration of Jesus’s birth.

WOMEN MADE SUBSERVIENT

Rumor has it that when the early Roman Catholic Church put their collective male heads together part of their goal was to discredit women, to keep them subservient and powerless. Mary Magdaline the alleged prostitute, is often confused with Jesus’s mother Mary. It was when the Bible was being edited that Mary Magdaline became a prostitute. Mary wasn’t a virgin, either. She couldn’t have been a virgin if she was pregnant. Of course, the men didn’t want to think of her doing the nasty so they made her a pregnant virgin at the same time they made Mary Magdaline a prostitute. And they made Jesus, the male, a God.

TWELVE YEAR OLD SLUT

So, exactly how old was Mary when she had Jesus? Historians place Mary’s age in the range of twelve to fourteen years old when Jesus was born. Mary was an adolescent twelve year old slut, not a prostitute! I know it seems shockingly young to be a mother. However, in the culture that Mary lived in at that time, young motherhood was commonplace. All over the region men where using adolescents in such a fashion. Am I the only one that finds it strange that Mary’s youth helped her choose awe for Yahweh rather than the cynicism that older people often struggle with in this fallen world. Mary was able to handle her “calling” well because she focused well on developing a strong skill at sexual intercourse. Merry Christmas!

  2. Perhaps you are mistaken? There are countless texts that assumed Mary “Magdalene” was a prostitute. Not Mary, mother of Jesus. According to the 4 canonical gospels, Mary Magdalene was a follower of Jesus, and she witnessed both his crucifixion and his resurrection. She was mentioned more than any other woman in the New Testament, other than the mother of Jesus. But, I agree with the basis of your posting that prostitution is the noblest of all professions.
