Doubt

Doubt … everyone has it. Some, more than others. If you didn’t have doubt you wouldn’t have faith or belief. Doubt is when you think the Old Ones have abandoned you. Doubt is when you feel you’re not good enough. Doubt is when you want to simply stop reaching.

In Magick, doubt is as normal as rain in the fall and mosquitoes in the summer. One of the keys to the practice of Magick is that like any other science, it is one of trying, testing and measuring. One of my ‘tests’ is that I don’t proselytize my beliefs to anyone. They are as personal as my relationship to the Earth and the Forest. I trust the Old Ones explicitly and frequently see the fruits of that trust in my life.

Some may suggest that by saying that I am providing ‘witness’ and I imagine that I am but not to convince anyone of anything. I don’t have to convince myself; I keep my eyes open. The other key to Magick is balance. Most never realize that a daily life filled with Magick can be difficult. Magick takes practice and work but also requires balance, which is hard.

This is why I don’t try to ask for students but instead let the Old Ones bring those who wish to learn into my sphere. Long ago a fellow student walked up to our teacher and proclaimed that he wanted to invoke Metatron. The teacher was sceptically supportive, and the rest of us stepped out of the blast zone that was to follow.

I often prefer the doubter over the fanatic. In the doubter, you can instil balance but the fanatic is different. The fanatic burns like the heat of a white-hot sun, that can burn out suddenly and sometimes catastrophically. The last key to magick is the hardest one to teach, but the easiest to practice. The simple key that the most advanced Mage or Wytche, is still a student.

The first time i had my Tarot Cards read, the principal card of my reading was the Mage. The image of the Mage at is his table — he has the wand, the sword, the cup, and the pentacle — he is holding all the tools of wisdom, strength, power, and purpose.

We are empowered with many gifts and abilities — so what holds us back from pursuing the happiness that we diserve? Is it self-doubt? For me I believed for the longest time, that I needed a partner in crime — like Robin needed Batman — but the truth is we can each be our own hero or anti-hero (in my case).

So, loose the doubt and gain the power to begin!
