Are We Defining Ourselves By Christianity?

I think too many Satanists allow our religion to be defined almost completely by its relationship to Christianity. They care more about offending and blaspheming against the Christian religion that they lose sight of the true purpose, which is to become greater than the sum of your parts. But like it or not, Christ still lives in their heads and until they learn to truly leave Christianity behind, Satanism will always just be a cult of Christianity.

RESPONSE FROM GRAY GHOST HAS RISEN (VIA TUMBLR)

I understand the POV presented here, and in no way is my response meant to be argumentative, especially as the person who re-blogged it was one of the biggest influences in my early first steps on the Left Hand Path and someone I consider one of my closest confidants … this is just another POV I am putting out there to be considered.

It is suggested that one must leave Christianity behind in order to truly become a part of “Our religion,” and “Become greater than the sum of your parts,” and using blasphemy hinders one from doing that. However, blasphemy is not always about trying to offend … at least it isn’t for me. To be honest, if a person is happy in their belief, in whatever religion, and they do not try to force others to have to live according to their religion … I have no beef with them and am not looking to “Offend,” them.

The reason blasphemy, especially blasphemy Porn, is near and dear to my heart is because it was a large part of what helped me break the chains of guilt I felt having been a christian for over two decades. I spread it across Tumblr and other social media outlets as a beacon to those that are in the position I was once in myself. I use my own experience along with knowledge of the Bible to help others come to terms with what they are, what their desires are and to help them free themselves from that same guilt. If I can help someone else, that to me is becoming more than just the sum of my parts.

I had long since left Christianity behind before I ever turned to Satan. It’s tricky calling it “Our religion,” because for so many, it’s an individual walk and it’s started for so many different reasons. I was gifted by my Dark Lord an amazing person, @darklordfollower666 that has been on a very similar and a very different journey in many ways. But we recognize in each other enough of the similarities to be able to let our paths join together. And, before the Tumblr purge of adult content, the blasphemy community on here felt very much like a family even though we all had our paths we were walking.

So, the point of my response is that, while I absolutely understand the author’s wish for there to be more people that are focused on achieving what they feel is the true purpose of Satanism, what each individual’s path is to achieve that purpose may be very different. Are there those that just use Satanism and blasphemy as an act of rebellion or just want to piss off and offend Christians … yes. Are they “True followers” … most are probably not. But using blasphemy does not make one a “False follower.”

Blasphemy can be a powerful weapon that can help take power away from a belief, be a cathartic experience that leads to healing wounds inflicted by religion and it is a very effective tool in leading others to be open to hearing Satan’s call.

Finally, We all have our own path to follow but it is gift when our paths cross or join with other followers … especially with those that we can present and discuss different or opposing viewpoints in a respectful way and not end up in a holy war about it.
