The Infernal Rite of Samhain

This rite is performed between sunset and moonrise on the final night of October, when the veil between living and dead lies open and the underworld listens.

Prepare a black altar facing west. Upon it place:

  • A single black candle, representing the shadowed gate.
  • A bowl of grave earth or ash from a burnt offering.
  • A chalice of dark wine.
  • A piece of iron or obsidian to anchor the spirit flame.

Draw a circle in salt mixed with ash. Outside the circle, place offerings of apples, bread, and blood-red berries for the wandering dead. When the hour of stillness comes, light the candle and say:

“By the sign of descent and the flame inverted, I open the gate of the dark half. By the blood of the harvest, by the ashes of the sun, I summon the watchers who keep the night eternal. O bearers of the black crown, receive these words of flame.”

Raise the chalice and spill a few drops onto the earth, saying:

“The year dies, and from its ashes I am reborn. Let the shadow bless the seed. Let the old spirits find their rest in my offering.”

Then stand silent for thirteen breaths while the veil thins. Listen for what moves beyond the circle. If you sense presence, speak only your name and purpose. When done, extinguish the candle with soil, not breath.

To close, walk counter to your original path and say:

“The gate closes. The shadow withdraws. Balance returns beneath the stars.”

Leave the offerings outside until dawn, that the unseen may partake and depart in peace — be it so — Demon Morez
