Honoring Wild Spirits Of Samhain
Samhain Blessings, Seekers! As we celebrate Samhain, I’ve been thinking about its significance beyond the typical Halloween imagery. This is my musing on Old Mother Black Cap (Crone Energy) and one of her many lessons of Spirit and Becoming.
For the past year and a half, I have embarked on a journey to forge my own Cunning and spiritual path, drawing from years of learning, research, and experience — a path free from the confines of mainstream magick and spiritual ideology.
I sought a more practical and simpler practice rooted in how I view the rhythms of nature, the elements, seasons, and cycles of the Earth. A practice born from lived experience, not just from some dusty tomes of books and outdated thinking. One that actually challenges me, tests my will, reveals my true strength, and stands in curiosity — a Wild Soul unbound by rules, limitations, and judgment.
In this reworking, I’ve eliminated all the cross-quarter sabbats except for Samhain, choosing to focus instead on the sabbats aligned with the elemental forces and the transitions between the seasons. I’ve found that Samhain aligns perfectly with the element of Spirit. Not just the Spirit of the unseen (even though that is a part of it) — ghosts, ancestors, deities — but the Spirit within me. The sovereign self, the divine power and magick I hold within.
Samhain, the final harvest before winter, marks a time of agricultural completion. The roots of the remaining crops are dug up and cleared away, symbolizing a turning inward. Spiritually, Samhain is a bridge between the living and the dead, a time to honor ancestors and connect with the unseen. This liminal period, when the veil between worlds is thin, allows us to learn from and celebrate the journeys of those who have departed.
As we honor our sovereign selves—our inner power and divine right — we release what no longer serves us and acknowledge our unique path. We are the wildest dreams of our ancestors, their champions. In honoring ourselves, we honor them. We are their legacy, the liminal beings who bridge worlds. As conduits of Spirit, we keep their memory alive and as we heal ourselves, we heal them.
This Samhain, Seekers, I challenge you to honor the Spirit within while honoring those who came before. Rededicate yourself to your sovereignty, your magick. Let the harvest energy clear away any clinging roots and crown yourself with true, authentic power from within. Dare to dream boldly, dare to stand apart, dare to carve your own path, and dare to reinvent yourself as often as your spirit calls. For you are the Wildest Magick and your ancestor’s Wildest Dream!
Samhain blessings! May your magick soar through the veils this night, weaving its way through all realms. Stand tall in your power and let your spirit shine fierce and true.
