SUCCUBUS CHILD

Under the green rushes your heart beats like a pagan drum.

The shadows shape you by day.

Watch evening fall like a darkening cloak with murmur and hum
.

Now comes the road and the way.

Clad but in the night-sky your pale limbs leap and flash in flight.

A call turns the wheels of your heart
.

Rushing to unspoken wishes you come a fleshy dream in the night
.

Aimed so true, an unerring dart.

Fathered by a wish and mothered by a dream
.

You come.

Eyes of water and skin of cream
.

You come.

The veil of worlds is pulled aside
.

Your hand commands
.

Between hidden and seen, a rending tide
.

Your holy heart demands.

Around the margin of sleep
where moonlight for beauty does weap, I hover…

‘Shhh’, you hasten…slender finger to lips
.

Sleeping unknowing my hands crawl to your hips.

Drenched in shadow your form blends into mine.

Spirit and flesh, a sacred rhyme.

A kiss brings me falling home.

And unguessing
… I wake alone.
