The Whore Archetype

“Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness” — Leviticus 19:29

No sooner than I read the aforementioned passage I heard Lilith’s voice inside my head ask, why not? In an article published in 2019, nestled between teen-friendly fluff pieces on fashion tips and celebrity tidbits, the column compared selling your body for cash to the practice of medicine, just another profession, just another choice. When you think about it, aren’t I a sex worker? In some ways, aren’t we all?” Every young woman or man for that matter needs to ask themselves this.

A news outlet reported, “I was molested … and one thing, I didn’t know that it was wrong,” said one woman at Magdalene House, a women’s shelter in Nashville. Another woman named Shelia said she was taught how to perform oral sex at age six by her own mother, “It happened so much that it seemed natural, like it was supposed to happen,” she said.

Many would feel shame identifying with the traits of a whore but I feel incredibly proud. I’m whorish down to my bones and I’ve felt this since I was a young girl. It’s not just a physicality it’s a consistent mental, spiritual and emotional state. I laugh at people’s stupidity when they label women “whores” as a put down. Let’s not get high and mighty. We’re all whores. We’re all selling ourselves in some capacity.

To me the whore represents an open and nonjudgmental sexual entity. I am empowered, the Queen of honest transactions and a Goddess of Counsel and Nourishment. Isn’t that what life is about? Giving to others? Sharing joy? Making myself happy?

Honestly, I feel that selling one’s body for money is greatly looked down upon in most societies. “Whore” is used as a derogatory term, rather than a career choice. Many famous actors began their road to stardom through porn (isn’t that being a whore?) In many ways, I feel we all “sell” ourselves at different times, for different motivations. And without realizing it —we are all whores — by choice. In many organized religions, temple prostitutes were once revered. I have a good friend who recently went to prison in Hong Kong. The only way she could get out early, for “good behavior” was to fuck both the male and female wardens. Rewards for sex — are they truly a bad thing? I don’t think so.
