Religion or Political Tool

In ancient Roman religion, the head priest was called the Pontifex Maximus, the great bridge builder. Julius Caesar held this title for forty years before the alleged birth of Jesus was born. After Christianity was legalized under Emperor Constantine, year 313, it became the state religion in less than one hundred years.

Christianity, with it’s strict nature, was an effective religion even to aide Roman rule. Whether this religion emerged at a very opportune time or from the ingenuity of Constantine The Great, Christianity brought the Roman Empire back to its stable past — Isn’t it strange that the Pope is called Supreme Pontiff?
